Gatemaster Offshore supplied a bespoke hatch solution to the RAAF 135th Radar Station Tower based in Brisbane, Australia. This project marked our entry into delivering hatch hardware within the telecommunications sector, extending our expertise into new infrastructure applications.
Working in close collaboration with AMS Australia, our team developed a bespoke hatch stay solution tailored to the unique structural constraints of the radar tower.
The primary challenge was the absence of conventional fixing points, with only the adjacent grating available for installation. In response, our engineering team redesigned our hatch stay, developing a solution mounted beneath the hatches. This approach maintained the functional performance of our hatch stay while adapting the form to better suit the installation environment without compromising on performance or reliability.
The radar tower station is located on a coastal cliff of Brisbane, Australia, exposing it to intense storms, specifically during spring and humid summer months. All our products undergo comprehensive testing and inspections, ensuring corrosion resistance, mechanical integrity, and long-term reliability are met. These tests ensure that every part of our products is ready to withstand harsh weather conditions, no matter where they are located, on an offshore platform or on a radar tower station.
This project demonstrates the adaptability of our engineering approach and the versatility of our access hardware solutions beyond offshore wind. By applying our offshore expertise in a new sector, we delivered a bespoke, reliable, high-performance solution tailored to project specifications. This collaboration reinforces our capability to support safety-critical access across diverse industries, setting a new benchmark for safety and delivering solutions that defy the elements.
